Roy Booth Demonstrations.
Repotting demonstration 13.2.2017
Repotting demonstration February, 2013
Roy removed this trident maple (acer buergerianum) from its pot and combed out the roots, trimming them with scissors. He prepared the pot and then started to position the tree at an angle. He sprayed the roots to stop them drying out and filled up the pot with compost, tamping it down.
Planting Siberian elms on tufa rock - 10.3.2014
Roy had superglued a piece of tufa rock to a shallow tray and added wire. He covered the rock with a mixture of compost and clay and started wiring some tiny cuttings of Siberian elm, ulmus pumila, to the rock. The cuttings were all from the same parent tree. More compost mix was stuck on and then moss was applied. Look how good the group looked on the stand at Tatton in 2018!
This dawn redwood (metasequoia glyptostroboides) had been in the same pot for several years and it took quite a struggle to get it out!
The roots were raked out and trimmed and the pot prepared. The tree was carefully positioned off centre, using a chopstick to tamp the compost down. It was sprayed with water to dampen the compost and a stone was added.
Planting hinoki cypress on rock - 12.9.2016
Roy had attached wires to the rock. He applied clay to the rock and took a small hinoki cypress from its pot and combed out its roots. The cypress was positioned on the rock. Compost was added and clay was built up round the root ball and covered with moss.
