Chris Williams' critiques - members bring in a tree for advice and Chris tells us where to prune, layer, wire, when to re-pot and anything else we need to know!
10.9.2018
Janet's Liquidambar was overgrown, with large leaves, so Chris pruned it and advised on wiring.
Richard's conifer clump had three trees in a line in the front. Chris identified the leader and advised changing the angle when repotting so the leader was at the front, with some rooted cuttings at the back to give depth.
Debbie's larch was healthy, but needed
pinching out to shorten the pads and to
allow light to lower branches
Alun's dwarf conifer needed pruning and wiring into a better semi-cascade shape.
Mike's pine was dense, but had a good shape towards the front.
Ged's Korean juniper had many thin dead branches which had to be trimmed. He was told to remove thick moss, which harbours pests.
Richard's juniper 'Blaauw' needed pinching and wiring to get the best shape out of it.
Alun had recently carved his literati pine and treated it with lime sulphur on one side.
