John Barnes - Planting on slate - 8.3.2010.
John started by showing us the conifers he was going to plant on the slate after it was modified.
He donned safety goggles and clipped carefully at the edges of the slate until he had formed a pleasant curved shape.
Next, he prepared the modelling clay by rolling it and applied it to the slate, following the shape. Wire was added through the holes in the slate \to position the conifers.
The trees were planted in compost and wired in, with a large tree near the centre and the other trees grouped around in varied distances to give a natural forest effect.
Compost was laid on the slate and then the trees were arranged, using the wire to hold them in place. Compost was pressed into gaps and smoothed down.
Annual General Meeting. This is an important meeting for the good of the Society, please come if you can. You can bring a tree to work on if you wish.
